Writer's Block: Who's your daddy?
09:07pm 15/10/2010
What famous person from history would you have liked to have as a parent, and why?

As embarassing as this is, I'll admit that I used to wish Richard Dean Anderson was my dad. He is the actor who was McGuyver and then General O'Neil on Stargate SG-1. I thought he was a nice, upstanding guy and would really work on being a good dad to me. I thought I could learn a lot from him.

a letter to Simon & Schuster

I have recently purchased the book "Sarek" by A.C. Crispin through Amazon for my Kindle. I usually "purchase" more free books than priced ones since I'm such a voracious reader, but this book was one I was willing to pay for. I made this decision based on the $8.99 price tag. Then I got my e-receipt from Amazon and found that I had been charged sales tax as well.

I understand that legally there are some states in which you must charge sales tax. But please realize that your company is now the only publisher that stands out in my mind; you're "the one that costs 'extra'". I will be watching for your books in the future so that I don't have the same feeling I did from this one.

I'm really into Star Trek's Vulcans lately and would like to read more books on them. Please do all you can to lower your books' price tag so that combined with the tax it's not such a shock.

Also, I noticed that Kindle's "Text to Speech" is disabled for this book. It doesn't really affect my decision to buy, but that does influence how I respond to the price. Part of my work day is massive amounts of mindless data entry; I greatly enjoy listening to books while I do it then reading regularly during breaks and before and after work.

I understand that you have all sorts of contractual obligations, but effort to address these issues would be appreciated. I make an effort to not be one of those annoying assholes spitting fire about how someone or something is wrong or has wronged me. Just... do what you can for one of your readers.

Thank you!

(feedback I sent them through their website)

Today's awesome thing is work. Honestly, I swear it. I've been working steadily at a temp government job since October. It whoops my ass, but seriously pays the bills. I'm so grateful!

Today's positive thing is: (fanfare!) CANDY APPLES. I love candy apples. My coworker brought one to work and she cut it up and shared. Sharing is caring and they are so delicious. I have to go buy a card during lunch, so I'll see if the pharmacy has apples, too. Oh, yum! I haven't been to the grocery store in awhile so I kind of forgot that it was that season already.

Netflix. I would die without it. It's just best for satisfying those cravings I get where I decide to watch some random actors ENTIRE filmography.

Blogging About Minutiae!!!

I started a(nother) blog. This one is just about clothes, though. I've been thinking around and around, but didn't want to clog up my lj. http://mylolicloset.blogspot.com/ This may work out to be a very positive thing.

Friends Page; most awesome thing, ever! I tried to read my Friends Page for the first time in a long time. People on EGL had questions about sold out prints and some ladies on WoW need more healers in their guild for raids. Then some chick told a horrible gross story about having sex with her boyfriend while on her period. What makes this such a positive thing (and awesome beyond belief) is that I didn't realize that I was reading a post from the Too Much Info community. I was sitting here thinking, "what the hell does that have to do with World of Warcraft?!"

Diverse Interests = awesome streams on your Friends Page! ;)

This best thing about today was Killer Bunnies. I went to the park to play the game "Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot" with a friend. We are addicted to this game and keep buying expansion packs. It's a card game, but we end up with a huge spread as we play. Basically you try to collect bunnies and Carrots, while killing your opponent's bunnies and stealing their Carrots. They try to do the same and hilarity ensues. This game is stupidly awesome because of the weapons you aim at the bunnies. There's Ice Picks, Steel Jaws, BBQing hillbillies, and alien abductions. I got hit bad; my bunnies were slaughtered! It was awesome.
